During the craziness of the garage sale, Erin received a package from my father. In it was this beautiful handmade quilt by the Squares of Love Quilt Fellowship from St. Patrick’s Anglican Church in Smyrna, TN.
With the lap quilt came a pamphlet explaining the history and design of the quilt. “Each lap quilt consists of seventy hand cut squares, having seven columns representing the seven churches and ten rows for the ten commandments. The cross is a visual reminder of our Lord’s sacrifice. The twelve squares of the cross represent the twelve apostles.” My father had told me to look for the package and to let him know when we received it. I assumed it was just an envelope for the kids since all their birthdays are in August. It was Friday evening when we got home and I saw how big the package was. I was truly surprised when I opened the package. The squares that make up the cross are pictures of hot air balloons. The irony is that the town we live in, Woodinville, is known for hot air balloons. In the summer months, several hot air balloons float over our neighborhood in the evening time. Erin knows what hot air balloons are and immediately recognized them on the quilt. “Thank you” to the Squares of Love Quilt Fellowship for the beautiful quilt, and “thank you” for Guycell and Bob Cole for thinking of Erin.
