New Swelling

September 29th, 2008

Anxiety is running pretty high here in the house.  I am trying to get laundry done and figure out what we can mail to Meemaw’s house and what clothes we need to bring.  Alan is busy trying meet deadlines at work but he’ll still need to remote into work while we’re gone.  The boys are excited about the plane trip and seeing family.  I made the mistake and mentioned in front of them that we were all to have blood drawn when we see Dr. Kaplan.  Every day I am asked when they get their “blood shots.”

Erin has been just happy and always asks when her bus for school will be here.  However this evening I noticed that she had not moved her left arm at all.  Although I didn’t see any swelling initially, I asked if I could touch her arm and she immediately told me no.  I managed to take a look and her left bicep muscle is hard.  Then at bath time it was more obvious to me that something was going on b/c I had a tougher time removing her shirt.  After showers, I brought her downstairs and Alan gave her a dose of Naproxen.  She’s sleeping now next to me on the couch.  It just dawned on me that this might be a time when we should give her Prednisone.  The flare-up isn’t in a joint yet but it might be in a few days if we don’t start the steroids.  So tomorrow we’ll start up “peanut butter pills” (we crush up the Prednisone and but it in peanut butter).  Hopefully she’ll get through preschool okay without feeling too drowsy.

Thursday is our big day.  I still need to find transportation to the airport.  Uncle Sean was going to drive us but he started his new job yesterday.  We’ve had a lot of bumps during the planning of this trip and they’ve all worked out.  I know the key is to be calm but it’s been hard to find my little happy place.  During my last few workout sessions I have vented to my trainer what was going on.  Tonight he convinced me to squeeze in one more session on Wednesday before we head back east.
