The Swelling is Gone

September 17th, 2008

I am now a believer in Naproxen.  Her facial swelling has subsided already.  The last facial swelling was over a year before Erin’s diagnosis and lasted well over a month.  Since the ER docs thought we were dealing with an allergic reaction, she was only taking Benedryl.  This time around has been so much easier.  The right eye is still black and blue (and today is school pictures).  Oh well…she’s still a cutie.  If Larkin has taught me anything, it’s get the pictures taken regardless.  Larkin would just scream when we walked into a studio.  I have plenty of professional pictures of him screaming and crying.  So Erin’s black and blue eye will fit right in with Larkin’s “screamy-head” portraits.

Erin was looking forward to riding the bus again this morning.  There was a small glitch with this morning’s pick up and Erin wasn’t picked up.  Transportation has been wonderful and the problem has been fixed.  Even though Uncle Sean had an appointment late in the morning, he managed to get her to school for me.  Besides that, she was okay with putting on her harness and was waiting patiently.  There were no tears or crying whatsoever.  Oh, and I was told the morning bus was fitted with the LATCH (or whatever they all it) so her harness could be used.  I talked to Kate (OT) yesterday and she said if Erin will wear the harness then that is the best thing.  She said many kids won’t wear the harness.

When I talked to Kate, she said the rep from Olympic Pharmacy wants to come out with the two strollers we looked at.  Kate said she was almost sure that he could leave one for us to use.  Hopefully we can use it while they get the paperwork submitted to the insurance company.  We really could use the stroller during our upcoming trip.

The boys are doing well too.  I signed Brennan up for beginning strings.  Fourth graders can start with string instruments and he’s excited.  Apparently his heart was set on a brass instrument but we told him if he does well this year, we’ll sign him up for beginning band next school year.  Now if we could only get Larkin into an extra-curricular activity.  It would be nice if the school had a club for future geologists.

Last thing…I went to Brennan’s class curriculum night.  On his desk was this cute book he put together.  Each page was a different topic like “My Favorite Sport” and “Where I Live and Where I Was Born.”  There is a page called, “My Proudest Moment.”  He wrote, “…is school and my sister and prizes and my birthday.”  Just reading it made my heart melt.  Poor Larkin, he got shafted again.

Poor Larkin–I had to laugh–didn’t expect your last comment!! I love him!

I am finding the middle child can get left out of a lot. Brennan used to take over Larkin’s Christmas and birthday presents. If Brennan knows the answer to his question will be a “no” he sends Larkin to be the messenger. Larkin’s birthday comes first and it always sneaks up on us. So his birthday parties haven’t been as well planned as Brennan’s. I thought it was tough being the oldest. Now I suspect being the youngest has its advantages. Erin gets away with quite a bit.
