University of Pennsylvania Medical Center’s Registration Sucks

September 29th, 2008

To be fair, I’ve been kind of on edge for a while now as I have begun to prepare for our upcoming trip.  My father used to say that if he didn’t have bad luck, he wouldn’t have any luck at all.  It must be a Ryan family thing b/c I think I have inherited the bad luck.  Fair warning…I have lost any tactfulness I may have had earlier today.

Dr. Kaplan’s office called today to remind me to register the family for Erin’s appointment.  Ugh…I had to call twice b/c someone hung up the phone when I finally got connected.  Then I got the one person who seems to hate her job b/c she cut me off all the time.  I can’t wait to see what our registration papers will look like.  It’s not like everyone has an easy name to spell.  She wouldn’t let me spell our names.  “Mrs. McCloskey, I can spell” (insert attitude here).  I learned real quickly just give her the info…short and sweet.  After going through every one’s name, date of birth, and social security numbers, she tells me that she is going to hang up b/c it was going to take her 30 minutes to register everyone.  WHAT???  Okay, whatever…  Surprisingly, the phone rang a few moments later and it was registration again.  She needed to know the sex of all the family members.  Oh Lord!  Erin may be Aaron by the time we get to Philly!  Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore.

Update:  Received another call from registration.  “Mrs. McCloskey you neglected to give me your birth date.”  This lady is not representing the hospital very well.
