We arrived in Philadelphia around rush hour today. I was amazed that Mapquest actually led us to the front door of the Ronald McDonald House. Alan had called PRMH earlier in the day to verify that we needed a room for the night. The house had no vacancies as expected but they put us up at the Sheraton which is two city blocks away. Even though we didn’t stay at the house we were able to eat dinner there and let the kids play. The house is amazing. It was built in the 1870s for a lawyer. All the tile and woodwork are the original pieces. The house has not be remodeled besides the additional wing that was added some years ago. There are 44 rooms with a large dining room, television room, and a playroom. I got a bit emotional when I first walked through the house. The house had such a good vibe about it. If Erin had to be at the hospital for a length of time, that’s where I would want her to stay. The kids loved the playroom and made friends instantly. A company called Goldman Sachs volunteered to serve dinner tonight. Then a local fire department came out with two trucks for the kids to sit in. The next time you are at McDonalds, please drop your change in the donation box. I was moved by what the house does for families in need. I never fully understood what the Ronald McDonald House does for children. We saw the benefit with our own eyes.
I uploaded new pictures in the photo album.
