Doing well

January 30th, 2009

It’s Friday and so far today has been a good day for all the kids.  There is no school today and Brennan, Larkin, and the daycare kids are having a good time playing together.  Usually Brennan and Larkin only have a few hours (if that) to play with Jaiden and Riley.  All four boys are in a good mood playing games together.

Erin’s potty training has been hit-n-miss.  I send her to preschool in a diaper and she feels that she can still go in it.  There is no preschool on Fridays and I’ve put her back in underwear.  I am feeling pretty good that we are very close to eliminating diapers all together.  Now that the last flare up has completely gone away she is back to her old self.  I don’t see too much change to the left side of her back/shoulder.  Now her left arm seems to be locking in a lower position as before which makes it more difficult to get shirts on.  I couldn’t believe it when she told me one day last week how she wanted to put her shirt on.  She wanted to put her left arm through the sleeve first, then I stretched the shirt to go over her head, and finally slipped her right arm in the sleeve.  Now I feel confident that she’ll come up with her own way of doing things.  That’s what I’ve been told by others living with FOP – that she’ll learn to do things her way.

By the way, we did have a 4.5 earthquake today and we’re all okay.  Luckily our family slept through it.  Even as I started my morning routine, I did not see anything different with the house.  Nothing was out of order except for the mess that was left last night before bedtime.  I didn’t realize that the earthquake happened until I turned on the television.  The epicenter wasn’t too far from us – in Kingston, WA.  The news is reporting that it was a fairly shallow earthquake and it was felt as far north in Vancouver BC.

I am making t-shirt pajama tops for me since my left arm will be immobilized for a few weeks–cut the shirt on the left side from the neck to end of the sleeve. fold over sides so they won’t ravel, attach velcro to both sides of the sleeve and, Vola!! no problem with putting the affected arm into the sleeve. I put my to fast front over back so the velcro, etc. won’t be seen!! I have a shirt I fixing for Erin! Mom
