The Lives of Erin Kate and Miranda

It’s been a while since I provided an update on Erin.  Bad news first…she just finished with a horrible flare up.  This one didn’t last long but it was very painful.  I kept her home from preschool last Tuesday b/c she was so cranky.  I still forget to connect her crankiness to an on coming flare up.  Sure enough by Wednesday night the left side of her back started to swell.  By yesterday the swelling had started to go down and now a little knot of bone is sticking out around her scapula.  Erin now complains that her left arm is hurting.  I am sure it’s b/c of the new bone.

Onto better news…  First, Erin is now walking up and down stairs!  Hallelujah!  We can thank Miranda for showing Erin that she can walk the stairs on her own.  Now Erin goes upstairs to her room and downstairs to the playroom all on her own.  Second, she’s potty training!!  Thankfully she has taken to it nicely.  Her fear was sitting up high on the toilet.  Since she feels unstable on her feet, she didn’t like her feet dangling over the toilet.  Once again we took tips from Miranda and put two Ikea step stools by the toilet.  Erin says, “I do it by myself.”  She won’t go potty on her own regardless how independent she wants to be.  BUT…our friend Rob modified a toddler’s potty chair for us (Thank you, Rob, for doing that for Erin!).  He raised the potty seat high enough for Erin’s height.  I keep that potty chair in the bathroom for when she is ready to go all by herself.  I bought a pack of 24 diapers last night and I am hoping it’s our last pack f-o-r-e-v-e-r!  We’ve had diapers in our house for the past ten years!  Hopefully we will be done for good (fingers-crossed!).

Very exciting about the potty training! I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hoping for the end of diapers. What a sweet stage…

As for me, I’m still struggling with whether we’ll be able to teach Miranda to pull her own pants up and down.
