Once again, I have fallen behind on my blogs about Erin. Spring Break is here and the daycare is keeping me busy. Since my last post Erin had a streak of bad luck.
From my last post, Erin had started another round of Prednisone (steroid) because of an injury to her right shoulder (the one shoulder she still has partial mobility in). Luckily no permanent restrictions developed from the injury. I can’t say whether the Prednisone helped or the injury wasn’t as severe. Either way, we are very thankful she fully recovered.
Unfortunately last Thursday (April 2nd) she started another round of Predisone. She was walking down our stairs and somehow hit her chin and cheek on the wall. She was so upset when it happened, she held her breath when she was crying and fainted in my arms. I get very upset when she faints. She only faints if she’s crying very hard. For her to cry like that, she has to be in quite a bit of pain. I didn’t see the fall but I suspect she lost her footing navigating the stairs and hit the wall. From then on, she has had one bump after another.
Friday she was running around and fell on her left arm and forehead. Saturday she tripped over a steep step and landed on her forehead. Sunday she was walking in circles around me as I was talking with the neighbors outside and she tripped over a curb. She landed on her left arm again and hit the back of her head. Luckily this time she was wearing her helmet.
I became concerned why she fallen four days in a row and questioned if she would require more than four days of Prednisone because of the back-to-back traumas. I called Erin’s pediatrician but he was out for the day. Then I made a call to Dr. Kaplan’s office. Dr. Kaplan confirmed that the four day treatment of Prednisone was sufficient for all the falls. The four days of Prednisone is enough to stay in her system for awhile after her last dose. Alan did take Erin in to see her pediatrician on Tuesday just to make sure everything was okay. He did an exam and specifically targeted her ears to make sure there wasn’t an infection. He gave her a clean bill of health and said to try to avoid the bumps.

It’s impossible to hold a three year old in one spot. I have said this before and I will say it again, I just have to let her run but try to keep her safe at the same time. She is desperate to ride a bike now too. The tricycle she got for her birthday isn’t the right bike for her. She needs a tricycle where the front wheel and pedals are further out. For now, she keeps her feet on the pedals the best she can as I push and steer the bike. She has the determination to make things work in her favor. I know she won’t let up and she shouldn’t.
