Yes, it has been quite a while since I posted an update on Erin. The old saying, “no news is good news” rings true in our home. Erin has had a great summer and has been flare-up free for almost three months. She did have a fall or two but nothing serious. Even I have reduced my anxiety over her tumbles. Erin still panics when she isn’t stable on her feet but she’s getting better with catching herself.
I can’t remember if I mentioned this but Alan and the boys fixed up the backyard in early June. We removed what sod we had left (wasn’t much) and leveled the yard the best they could. They laid down several inches of wood chips and it’s nice and soft to walk on. Erin has had a safe place to play on her own without much fear of injury. Now I can be upstairs in the kitchen and she can go outside to play on her own and I know she’ll be okay. Unlike playing out front where she needs constant supervision and a helmet. We have even eased up on using her helmet this summer. It’s too hot to be wearing a helmet during the summer. I know we have to protect her head but it’s been nice to have her be running around without feeling she’s different even though she is. That will change in the upcoming weeks. Preschool goes back in the middle of September and the helmet will be back in use then. I am hoping she won’t need it for kindergarten but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
Alan is still unemployed but things are looking a bit brighter. He’s working on several solid leads and I am hopeful that he’ll be employed sooner than later.
All three of the kids had their birthdays in August. We finished the August birthdays with Brennan’s Wii tournament party this past Sunday. It dawned on me that next year he’ll be 12 years old which is an age he can start babysitting (I think). Alan and I have been working with him on how to properly take care of Erin. Maybe in a year Alan and I will be able to leave the house for a few hours with Brennan in charge. The jury is still out on that one. Not sure that’s a good idea just yet!
