Preschool Graduate

June 17th, 2010

Erin did it…completed two full years of preschool!  I would love to publicly thank Ms. Tina and Ms. Sally at Cottage Lake Elementary for teaching Erin so many wonderful things.  Erin had her moments but really enjoyed going to school. It’s amazing to have a child at 4 years old learning how to read.  My boys didn’t have their verbal skills down at  four let alone reading skills!  Erin has had a major boost to her academics because of the preschool.  It just seemed like yesterday I was putting my little 3 year old on a school bus for the first time.

The last few months we’ve been talking about which kindergarten should Erin be placed in for the next school year.  I went against the school’s recommendation that Erin attend half-day kindergarten.  Our middle child, Larkin, attended half-day kindergarten.  Larkin wasn’t ready for full-day school.  However I know Erin is ready.  Come August we’ll need to meet with the teacher and support staff to smooth out the logistics of Erin’s day.  I would bet money on the fact the school will be pleasantly surprised how little her FOP will interfere with school.  I had an impromptu meeting with the principal and she mentioned that there will be two recesses.  The second recess is the scarier one since it’s a full 30 minutes with kindergartners through 3rd grade out on the playground at the same time.  At my suggestion, the principal was open to possibly finding another place for Erin to go for the 30 minutes.  Knowing Erin, I am sure she will want to be at recess with everyone else.

We have time to work out the small details.  For now I am shedding a little tear that my baby girl is growing up.  Little Miss Independent…hasn’t that been my wish all along?? :-)

Ms. Sally and Ms. Tina sound like great teachers! Erin was a lucky girl.

Hi! My little Clara too will begin school in september, as she just turned 5YO. We haven’t set the logistic with here teacher nor director yet, but they know about FOP and we are planning to meet about that very soon. I had the same worry concerning playing outside with other grade all mixted for the futures years . Knowing the maternal side of Clara, I tought she may be “help animator” for the little one, (giving her little easy tasks), who are playing just togheter in a little isolate area. If that work, she’ll be proud and feeling older, more confident. But I will take care to be sure that she have many other ocasions, less dangerous for her, to socialise and play with boys and girls of her age, out of school context… Anyway, you both have so nice smile, I’m not worry, I’m sure you had many idea yourself. We should share soon. First, I want to look the link I saw on this site concerning school…

  3. Thanks for sharing erins school journey. We have another year until Jasmine goes to school all day but at the moment she goes to nursury (pre school) each morning and loves it. The play ground would also be a no no for Jasmine too xxxx
